For Christians, Trinity symbolizes the holy trinity, i.e. the father, the son and the holy spirit.

In ancient Celtic culture and religion, three is a sacred number as it’s believed that significant phenomena occur in threes. As such, the trinity knot represented any important thing that came in threes, some of which include: the three-layered nature of the human soul, the three domains (earth, sea and sky) and the three elements (fire, earth and water).
